6 of the best supercars owned by Clarkson, Hammond and May

You all know about Clarkson’s garish Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder and horrendously unreliable Ford GT, but the Grand Tour trio have collectively owned a multitude of supercars that are both iconic and mind-bendingly capable. Once the Top Gear TV show started to make it big worldwide, the boys obviously started to use their hard-earned cash to purchase cars to rival those they drove for ‘work’.

Although my favourite cars from the guy’s collections over the years have generally been from Hammond’s stable, James and Jeremy have made investments that show they too have pretty good taste when it comes to supercar ownership.

The Ferrari F355 sits right up there with the most iconic Ferraris ever produced, with this car being the first to use an F1-style gearbox in a road car. Clarkson chose it to be his first Ferrari, and what a choice it was.

Renowned for its operatic 3.5-litre V8, the five-valve DOHC engine delivers 375bhp and 268lb ft of torque to the rear wheels. The engine could also reach a screaming 8500rpm, convincing Jeremy to buy one new back in the ’90s.

When writing about his F355 experience, Clarkson has however said a few unsavory things about it: “The Ferrari 355 GTS I once owned was plagued with seatbelts that strummed like guitar strings if you had the roof off, an engine that had to be taken out of the car to be serviced and a two-stage throttle that made only two speeds available: 2mph and 175mph.”
