As crazy as it seems, summer is right around the corner. All we can think about is laying out on the beach, eating ice cream and staying out entirely too late. One of the best parts about the season is finally getting some color back on our skin, but wearing SPF is always a must, no matter how tan you’re trying to get.
One way to get the appearance of spending the day basking in the sun without actually doing it and damaging your skin is by using self-tanners. We love looking bronze and beautiful, but getting the perfect fake tan isn’t always as easy as it looks. In fact, some of the biggest celebrities have suffered from spray-tan fails…and they usually happen on the red carpet!
From going so dark that they were accused of black face to having streaks everywhere, even stars can get it wrong sometimes. We rounded up some of the most tragic celebrity fake tans to make you feel better about your own.
1. SELENA GOMEZ
We can’t have a celebrity tan fails list without the most recent entry, Selena Gomez at the 2018 Met Gala. We were super excited to see the “Wolves” singer on the infamous red carpet, but when she showed up it wasn’t what we expected. Although we did love her dress, her tan had everyone talking.
The over-the-top darkening of her skin had people question whether or not it was black face and it what everyone was focused on for the rest of the night. Sel eventually responded to the criticism by posting a video insinuating that she didn’t the look either.
2. ARIANA GRANDE
It should go without saying that for a majority of the time that Ariana Grande played Cat Valentine on Victorious and Sam & Cat, her tan was entirely too dark and too fake. We thought she would leave the character in the past when the latter ended, but apparently she didn’t want to part with her darkened skin.
When the “No Tears Left to Cry” singer was in London in 2015, her fake tan didn’t completely set before she went outside to meet fans. Not only is her face a completely different shade than the rest of her body, but her chest is full of tan streaks. Yikes.
